Audio Video Design takes Top Massachusetts position in national industry ranking
NEWTON, MASS. — Audio Video Design, a Newton-based designer and installer of custom electronic and home entertainment systems, brought home a top honor in the “Best Integrated Home” category from the Electronic Lifestyles® Designer awards at the recent CEDIA (Consumer Electronic Design and Installation Association) expo in Atlanta, GA.
Audio Video Design was recognized for the design and installation of integrated electronics in a fully automated home, meeting the combined expectations of a tech-savvy husband with a keen awareness of environmental efficiency, and the aesthetic expectations of his wife, a talented pianist who enjoys having connoisseur-level music available throughout the house. The homeowners expect LEED certification for their new three-story contemporary home, built in a stunning New England Coastal setting, so AVD designed all integrated electronics with sensitivity to environmental criteria.
“This home, filled with state-of-the-art integrated electronics, is a masterpiece – inside and out,” says Brad Smith, president of Audio Video Design “In-wall speakers play at the infinity pool overlooking a seaside bluff. A kitchen and family room space with stunning ocean vistas features a gas fireplace and TV that rotates to accommodate different viewing areas, all controlled through a touchscreen. Speakers in the music room are worthy of the grand piano that shares the space, and lighting scenes are programmed to enhance exquisite interior design, including a 40-foot LED foyer chandelier which uses only about as much electricity as a flashlight.”
“The owners of this home truly embraced the possibilities for using electronics and automation to enhance their lifestyle, while also working with an overall plan for environmental efficiency,” Smith added. “Just as the solar panels are tucked behind the gables of a slate roof, most of the electronics in this home are largely invisible. Considering the scope of the project, that is perhaps the most noteworthy achievement of them all.”
CEDIA’s Electronic Lifestyles® Designer Awards are considered the most prestigious awards program for the *$8 billion residential electronic systems industry. Work submitted for the Electronic Lifestyles® Designer Awards is completed in consumer homes around the world in the following categories: home theaters, integrated homes, media rooms, hidden installations and more. Submissions range from $40,000 single-room projects to whole-house integration systems that carry price tags topping $3 million.
Lifestyle Designer Award Winners were selected by two qualified panels which evaluated submissions based on both the technical merits and the design/aesthetics. The technical panel consisted of five CEDIA residential electronic systems contractor members and the design panel included members from the American Institute of Architects and the American Society of Interior Designers.
The winning project submitted by Audio Video Design is published in the CEDIA 2009 Idea Book with color images and essay explanations of the project’s challenges and products used. A digital version of the 2009 CEDIA Idea Book can be viewed at www.cedia.org/awards. Audio Video Design will also be featured in an upcoming issue of CEDIA’s Electronic Lifestyles magazine, a publication providing ideas and inspiration for builders and interior designers as well as consumers.
